Frequently asked questions

This section describes frequently asked questions and their answers.

I have purchased a backup service, what do I need to do for it to start working?

Start by adding a device. Depending on the operating system of the device, you need to install our backup agent. The supported operating systems are Linux, Windows, and macOS. After adding a device and it appears online, continue by adding an appropriate protected item type (the type of data you will be backing up), set a schedule and retention time.

Currently, we support the following protected item types:

Online/Offline device

When a device is online, it means that the backup agent on it is working correctly and accepting commands. When it is offline, it is possible that: there is no connection to it, the backup agent itself has no connection to it, or the backup agent is not working correctly. In the latter case, backups cannot be performed and you need to investigate why the backup agent is not working correctly.

Does the machine I want to back up need to have internet access?

You need to have outbound internet access, but not inbound. This means that, for example, a given machine can be behind a private IP (an IP address that is not public) but have outbound internet access through its gateway, and this is sufficient for backup processes to function correctly.

Where can I monitor current and past backup processes?

You can monitor your backup processes from the client area by opening your backup service and selecting "Processes". From here you can see the history of when specific backups have completed successfully. From the "Actions" button you can view a detailed log for a specific backup process.

My backup process stops due to lack of RAM

If you have more data to store, the backup process will take more time, and accordingly starting it will also take some time. This is because when starting a backup, a check is performed on the currently archived content, its integrity, what needs to be archived (what has changed), etc. This check also requires some resources. To make the process faster, the initial information gathering happens in RAM.

If you see an error like WARNING fatal error: runtime: out of memory, the backup process has not completed successfully. To overcome this problem, you can use the option "Use files instead of RAM (slower)". This option is explained on each page, depending on what type of backup you are performing.
