Why should we back up our data?

Backup is of critical importance for the security and reliability of our data. It provides us with the ability to restore our data in case of damage, loss, or unwanted events such as hacker attacks or natural disasters. Without backups, we can lose valuable documents, files, media materials, and other important information, which can have serious consequences both personally and professionally. Therefore, performing backups is an essential practice in the field of information security and should be done regularly.

Advantages of the backup service at Delta.bg

Our backup service not only fulfills its core function but also offers a number of additional advantages:

  • Incremental backups

Incremental backup is a method used to create backup copies only of the changed or newly added data since the last backup. This reduces backup execution time and storage requirements.

  • Encryption of backup copies

Encrypting copies ensures confidentiality and data protection during creation, transfer, and storage. Cryptographic algorithms and keys are used for encrypting and decrypting data, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the information. The authorized individual is solely the owner of the specific backup.

  • Archive compression

For more efficient use of disk space, copies are archived and compressed during creation. Compressing archives reduces the size of the data without compromising its integrity, thus ensuring more efficient use of storage space.

  • Storage location

Backup copies are stored in a remote location, managed by us, separate from the original data location. This provides additional protection against data loss in case of natural disasters, theft, or other unforeseen events.

  • File deduplication

File deduplication is a method for optimizing data storage that allows reducing the required disk space by identifying and removing duplicate files. This ensures savings in disk space and faster execution of backups.

  • Backup agent

The backup agent is specialized software that runs on the device for which you want backups to be created. This software must be running at all times for your backup to function properly.

  • Device

This is the machine - physical or virtual - that is subject to backup. The supported operating systems are Linux, Windows, and macOS.

  • Protected item

A protected item is nothing more than a specific resource that you want to be backed up. For example, you can specify particular directories and files, specific databases, specific Windows partitions, etc. to be backed up. Each device can have multiple protected items to be backed up.

  • Schedule

The schedule is the frequency at which a given protected item will be regularly backed up. This schedule ensures that a given backup process will start automatically without the need for manual intervention. Each protected item can have only one schedule.

  • Process

A process in the context of the backup service is the action that has been performed or is being performed to carry out a backup.

  • Backup types

Each device can have several protected items subject to backup. Each item is divided by type. Currently, the supported types are files and directories, MySQL, Program Output, Windows Server System State, and Windows System Backup.

  • Snapshots

Snapshots are successfully completed backup processes that contain the full data from the protected items you have specified.
