What is IPMI

IPMI is an additional module in the machine that allows remote access to the server. Some of the advantages are:

• Ability to mount a virtual CDROM for OS installation.
• Console with access to the server itself.
• Ability to physically restart, stop, or start the machine.
• BIOS update.
• Sensor monitoring.

Required Tools for Access

Two things are required for IPMI access:

• OpenVPN for access to the IPMI address
• Java for access to the machine console
