Frequently Asked Questions¶
General Questions¶
What is Block Storage and what is it used for?
Block Storage is a data storage service that provides additional disk volumes for your Cloud VPS servers. Volumes store data independently of the server and can be moved between different servers within the same project. It is suitable for additional storage, databases, application data, and any workload that requires separate, portable storage. For more information, see Introduction to the service.
What is the difference between Block Storage and the main server disk?
The main server disk is part of the Cloud VPS service and contains the operating system and system files. Block Storage is a separate service that provides additional volumes — independent disks that can be attached to and detached from servers. Block Storage volumes can be moved between servers, while the main disk is tied to its server.
What disk types are available?
Block Storage offers two disk types: NVMe — high-speed solid-state drives for performance-critical workloads, and HDD — traditional magnetic drives for cost-effective bulk storage. You choose the disk type when ordering the service.
What storage sizes are available?
You can create volumes from 50 GB up to 1 TB. The size is selected during the ordering process using a slider.
In which regions is Block Storage available?
Block Storage is available in region eu-sof-1 (Sofia, Bulgaria). The volume must be in the same region as the Cloud VPS server you plan to attach it to.
Ordering and Activation¶
How do I order Block Storage?
You can order the service directly from the client area or from the official page on Delta.BG. Select a region, disk type, storage capacity, and label, then add the service to your cart and complete the order. For detailed instructions, see Ordering and Activation.
How long does it take to activate the service?
The service is usually activated automatically within a few minutes after a successful payment. Once activated, you'll receive a notification, and the volume will appear in your list of active services in the client area.
Can I change the volume size after ordering?
You can request a resize from the "Resize" tab on the Block Storage service page. Note that volume size can only be increased, not decreased.
What billing cycles are available?
Block Storage is available with Monthly and Annually billing cycles. The annual cycle offers a lower monthly price.
Management¶
How do I attach a volume to a Cloud VPS server?
Navigate to the Cloud VPS server's "Volumes" section in the client area and attach the Block Storage volume from there. The volume must be in the same region as the server. For detailed instructions, see Managing Volumes.
Can I move a volume between servers?
Yes. You can detach a volume from one Cloud VPS server and attach it to another within the same project and region. All data on the volume is preserved during the move.
Can a volume be attached to multiple servers at the same time?
No. A Block Storage volume can be attached to only one Cloud VPS server at a time. To attach it to a different server, you must first detach it from the current one.
How do I view my volume's specifications?
Navigate to the Block Storage service page in the client area. The "Volume Specifications" section displays the status, region, label, unique identifier, and storage capacity of the volume. For details, see Management.
Can I attach a volume to a server in a different region?
No. A volume can only be attached to Cloud VPS servers that are in the same region. If you need a volume in a different region, you must order a new Block Storage in the corresponding region.
What happens to the data when detaching a volume?
When detaching a volume, all data on it is preserved. The volume remains available in your client area and can be re-attached to the same or a different server.
How do I mount the volume in the operating system after attaching it?
After attaching the volume to a Cloud VPS server through the client area, you need to mount it in the operating system. For Linux, see Mounting a Disk on Linux. For Windows, see Mounting a Disk on Windows.
Snapshots¶
What is a Block Storage snapshot and what is it used for?
A snapshot is a point-in-time copy of the entire Block Storage volume at the block level — capturing all data, file systems, and partition structures. It is used to quickly restore a volume to a previous state, for example before a data migration, application update, or bulk data operation. For details, see Snapshots.
How long are snapshots kept?
Snapshots are kept for a period of 48 hours. After that time, they are automatically deleted.
How many snapshots can I maintain at a time?
You can maintain a maximum of one manual snapshot at a time. To create a new snapshot, you must first delete the existing one.
What happens to the server connection during a snapshot operation?
When creating or reverting a snapshot, the volume will be temporarily detached from the connected Cloud VPS server (if currently attached). After the operation completes, the volume will be automatically re-attached to the server.
What happens when I revert to a snapshot?
When reverting, the volume is restored to the state captured in the snapshot. All current data on the volume will be replaced. If the volume is attached to a server, it will be temporarily detached and re-attached after the operation. This action is irreversible.
What is the difference between a snapshot and a backup?
Snapshots capture the entire volume at the block level and are kept for 48 hours — they are suited for short-term protection before changes. Delta Cloud Backup archives individual files, folders, and databases with configurable retention and automatic scheduling — it is suited for long-term protection. For a detailed comparison, see Snapshots and Backups — Comparison.
What is the difference between Block Storage snapshots and Cloud VPS snapshots?
Cloud VPS snapshots capture the server's main volume (containing the operating system and system files) and are managed from the Cloud VPS service page. Block Storage snapshots capture the additional Block Storage volume and are managed from the volume's own service page. Both types follow the same retention policy (48 hours) and limit (1 manual snapshot).
Support¶
How do I get support if I have an issue?
You can create a support ticket from the "New Ticket" tab on the Block Storage service page in the client area.
